Beach, Beach, Beach

2009 June 27

Ladeee- dadeee- daaaa, it’s a beautiful day outside, meaning the beach is calling my name! Last night was another repeat of the past few; I entertained the boys with my silly dance moves (the “jessica jerk” needs more work), took weird mirror shots (the boys were a bit too amused by this), and dominated (i’m so modest) in more BP. Ohhh, summer….love you so. Too bad I was dressed for the fall while all the girls were wearing sun dresses, shorts & flirtayyy tanks, and cute flower-printed skirts. Sorry, this girl get’s cold easily!

I’ve been workin’ my shifts at the j-house (jamba juice….), working on internship projects and spending lots of QT with my good ol’ high school friends. Gotta squeeze in a mama or poppa night soon!

Food, food, food (starting with lunch):

sandwich + tj's pita chips
sandwich + tj’s pita chips

In the sandwich: laughing cow cheese, avocado (the 2 are a perfect pair, try it!), tofurky, cucumbers (that I forgot to wash,  yucky) & lettuce!

followed by some cantaloupe (helllooooo leg's, my mom's a tan sista)

Trader Joe’s Whore: Tj’s 3 layaaa hummus (nom.), Newman’s pretzels sticks, Tj’s wasabi peas & Tj’s “Everything” Crackers

Thursday night, my dad and I were craving some “burgers” & fries, so that is what we had. :-D After dinner I drove over to Andrea’s house for part dos of the Nj Housewives Reunion.

What THE HECK did Danielle almost have done to Dina?!? Thoughts?

We ran over to Jimbo’s (a local grocery store, similar to Whole Food’s/Tj’s) and picked up these beauties…they were fabulous.

hit up the salad bar (broc, baby corn, romaine, carrots, jicama, tomatoes, cucumbers)

hit up the salad bar (broc, baby corn, romaine, carrots, jicama, tomatoes, cucumbers)

Topped my salad w/ shredded pepperjack cheese, salsa and the crumbled up Southwest Sunshine Burger!

mix it all up, mix it all up!

mix it all up, mix it all up!

Followed by some organic, store-bought fries (seasoned with spike):

IMG_6186I decided to be a good daughter and come home a little earlier than usual, to please my mom after my later-than-usual night before. Therefore, I was able to make this….

(warmed up!) apple sauce, carob chips, cinnamon, graham crackers and sunflower seed butter

(warmed up!) apple sauce, carob chips, cinnamon, graham crackers and sunflower seed butter

Yesterday morning’s breakfast was a bit rushed (due to work), but very good nonetheless.

IMG_6195This mix included cottage cheese, tj’s blueberry ground flax, strawberries, Barbara’s cinnamon puffins, peanut butter puffins, and shredded spoonfuls + sunflower seed butter.

followed by the usual sides

Since I rarely go more than 3, 4 hours without eating….I was starving after that 5-hour shift. Mama bear saved the day, as usual….

amy genius thinking + her cooking skills = SCRAMBLED EGGS for lunch (!!)

my genius thinking + her cooking skills = SCRAMBLED EGGS for lunch (!!)

I stepped back and let the woman work. Sometimes you just gotta give up the control! This made her happy, she likes cooking for me….but rarely gets to anymore since I’m always the one wanting to cook for her.

She cooked the eggs in a little bit of EVOO, with mushrooms, zucchini, bell peppers and spinach. We threw the mix into a La Tortilla Factory (Whole Wheat) wrap, dipped it in salsa and had tortilla chips on the side.

another gorgeousss afternoon snack : graham crackers, sunflower seed butter & a fuji apple in the sun

another (gorgeousss) afternoon snack : graham crackers, sunflower seed butter & a fuji apple in the sun

I wanted some hearty falafel sandwich for dinner (the kind you’d get at some restaurant), so that is what I made….

IMG_6220Whole wheat burger bun, veganaise, Sunshine Falafel Burger, dijon mustard, avocado, spinach & tomatoes. I also had some carrots & 3 layer hummus on the side. This bad boy was loaded.

Oh sh!t..... doesn't that look good?

Oh sh!t..... doesn't that look good?

Then it was off to the boys’ house again, I snacked on some Newman’s Fig Newtons while there (LOVE!).

And this morning I had the usual blueberry oats, english muffin + pb, tangerine juice….and home-made coffee (which I sweetened w/ agave and a bit of soy milk).

IMG_6235We finally took pictures last night (!!), so i’ll post all the silliness tomorrow…..off to shave my legs, eat lunch and head to the beach!!!!!!!!!!

Much Love, Jess

I am ALL about falafel these days- seriously good stuff. What’s the overall verdict on the sunshine burgers? (please tell me they are gross and I’m not missing out :P )

Gotta love mom’s cooking! Mine can only cook 2 things- lasagne and roast chicken. Both bangin’ though!

ENJOY the beach and send me some sunshine please!

SO jealous that you can go to the beach whenever you want! I can lay poolside, but that’s nothing compared to the sand and crabs and sea critters all around! Also, jeal of those Sunshine Burgers…holy shit where can I find them?! They look so badass ;) All of your food looks badass, actually. Especially your rushed breakfast – don’t you absolutely HATE it when you have to rush through eating something delicious? Pain in the ass!

Anywho, I hope you don’t cut yourself shaving (something I do probably weekly) and have fun at the beach, attract some hotties, you know the drill.

Love you! Text you later ;)

Way to live up the summer babycakes! That’s what summer is meant for right?! To hang with friends, enjoy the beach, soak up the sun, and eat some nom nom worthy food.

In regards to food, my thoughts are as follows:
    1. guac and laughing cow were meant to get married
    2. just bought Sunshine burgers because of YOU! Check out my latest post for all the info on my buys! You’d be proud

LOVE falafel! When I was in Amsterdam I found a falafel shop where they had this intense salad bar with tabbuleh (sp?), carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, beets, eggplant, etc all wonderfully spiced and you could refill your pita as many times as you want with all the veggie goodness. I basically just stood there loading and reloading my ww pita. It was glorious.

I’m loving all the TJ’s plugs. Maybe one day we’ll stroll the aisles together.

Glad you’re getting to the beach! I haven’t been yet but I’m going to Lake Michigan next week and I’m so excited to get some sun!

That wrap looks super delicious! As for sunflower seed butter: I’m going to have to get on that wagon. I see it everytime I stock up with my usuals (Naturally More, Dark Choc. Dreams, White Choc. Wonderful, TJ’s Raw Almond Butter) but I haven’t actually tried the sunflower seed butter. I would assume it tastes like soynut butter…?
